We are delighted to announce our new course in Food Photography with the incredible Jon Mackenzie who we are flying over from the UK to teach this two-day course and help you to take on new skills to best be able to photograph your plated dishes and build your portfolio.

This photography course is aimed at anyone who is keen to improve their photographic skills, including chefs, food bloggers, people who just enjoy posting daily meal updates on Instagram, food producers, or anyone who simply wants to gain the photographic skills to capture beautiful food images.

The aim of the course is for students to gain the basic skills and knowledge to be able to reproduce images on their own at home or at work on yachts and develop their understanding of cameras and lighting so they can produce content that vastly improves their portfolio.

Jon will take students through basic technical theory and camera control, composition, the styling of food and props and lighting control. There is no need for students to have completed any previous photographic training and owning a high-end DSLR camera is not essential. Students can even bring a simple ‘point and shoot’ camera or their phone.

 

Equipment Required

Your own camera: this does not need to be a high-end digital SLR – a point and shoot camera can achieve great results or at a push, even your phone.

If you own a tripod, please bring this with you on the day.

A fully charged battery and empty memory card.

A notepad and pen.

    About Jon Mackenzie

     

    Jon Mackenzie is an accomplished commercial photographer, producer and lecturer with over 10 years’ experience in the photographic industry shooting lifestyle, product and portraits throughout the UK and overseas. His main passion however, lies in food and gastronomy, and photographing it. Jon has taught on a broad spectrum of photography courses, from A-level to adult short courses gained a BA in Commercial Photography from the Arts University Bournemouth, holds PTLLS Level 4 teaching qualification and was awarded his MA in 2018.

     

    Jon has worked for some of the world’s leading production companies and brands. Shooting food editorial stories for Creativity and Bake magazine, packaging ranges and instore posters for Docrafts and Mitch Turner’s Little Venice Cake Company and has images represented by the worlds leading stock agencies.
